Vacation and Volunteer at Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup

Hands Up Holidays, the tour operator that blends incredible sightseeing with meaningful volunteering experiences, is lending its support by encouraging travellers to combine a fantastic holiday exploring the best of Australia and also giving something back by volunteering for a week at the Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup.

Volunteers will assist in the following areas:
Catering Assistants – ensuring 500 players are fed and watered pitchside, at their accommodation and in the lounge
Media Assistants – live match reporters, match photographers, media accreditation
Accreditation Monitors – enforcing the accreditation system at key access points

The itinerary starts with a week’s volunteering in Melbourne followed by the holiday visiting Sydney, The Blue Mountains, Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef. Extension trips to South Australia, the Whitsunday Island and Uluru (Ayers Rock) are also possible. (more…)

Wounded Bald Eagle May Get Bionic Beak

An American Bald Eagle was found with it’s top beak shot off, tragically leaving it unable to tear its prey or feed itself. The Raptor Chapter of Idaho and a team of volunteer research engineers are looking at giving the eagle, named Beauty, a bionic beak.
